In my work, I was used CNF and PVDF compounds to fabricate the superhydrophobic surface using spray method. After the preparation of composite coatings, the superhydrophobic composite (CNF/PVDF) coating with interior and exterior nanostructure was gotten after calcined at 200°C . But the question is what is the exact purpose of heat treatment and why the composite coating got the interior superhydrophobic structure after the calcination. Why we can't get the superhydrophobicity before the heating treatment.
because there is hydrogen bonding in fabric but when we press they penetrate inside pore of fabric this can be reason for heating at high temperature they fix then inside the fabric
To analyse what exactly has happened on heat treatment you can analyse in two ways:
(1) Have the structural morphology of the surface changed when you did the heat treatment? You can find this out by doing electron microscopic studies of the film before and after heating. The change in roughness and structural parameters can result in superhydrophobicity in the material even if chemical nature is same.
(2) How the chemical nature of the surface have changed on heating? If there is any change in the surface functional groups, defects etc. You can try comparing the XPS, Raman spectroscopy etc of the sample before and after heat treatment.
While doing the analysis keep in mind the conditions under which heating is done.
I totally agree with dear Monalisa Ghosh, Herein, Starting from the major role of the surface structure of materials in determining their hydrophobicity, the thermal treatment might effect the surface structure of your materials resulting in the increase in their roughness.
I suggest you to read this paper about PVDF and notice the effect of different surface structures on the hydrophobicity of PVDF webs which were fabricated at different levels of relative humidity
