1-Lack of Interaction: You will find inadequate interaction between the university research department, on one side and business establishments, government departments and research institutions, on the other.

2- Shortage of Resources: For performing a quality research sufficient funds are not provided. This discourages research of all types. Governments, institutions /organizations  don’t appreciate the contributions of research findings to economic development and for that reason do not offer adequate amounts for research of all types.

3- Absence of Coordination: There exists lack of coordination among various organizations responsible for performing research.

4- As dear Aristidis Matsoukis mentioned, no proper apportunity for eager researches by some of their colleagues and ....

5- Weak or inexistent institutional accountability

6-Influence of the dominant paradigms

Foreign funded research through European funds mostly are subject to new military law which require a lot of bureaucracy and paper work! Military officials are those who filter the results!!!  Serbian researchers are mad about. We still search for the best practice!

NGOs and think tanks are urging Serbia's Defence Ministry to withdraw new regulations it proposes on research in the country, claiming it would jeopardise most forms of research.

In addition to what other commenters said, corruption and mismanagement of research fund are part of the problems. Lack of funding opportunities, lack of research facilities such as the state-of-the-art equipment/technology and technical knowhow are also militating against research in developing nations.

One of the problems that I faced in my country (Iraq) was some senior researcher with closed mind. They did not join the developments and new theories, so they stand against any attempt for scientific progress.

Closed mind is a problem, especially concerning people who love their chair more than everything else.

A lot of problems face the scientific work especially in developing countries. Corruption is the main one. Also, lack of funds is a huge problem. The researchers in these countries have to pay from their pockets to maintain their researches from A to Z. Another big problem, I think it is a part of the corruption, which is making the research leaders or the academic teams leaders are ignorant in the research work. They are hired due to relevance or because they represents this party or that (political reasons). The developing countries' researchers suffer from limited connection with researches from advanced countries like US, Russia, Europe, Japan, and S, Korea which make their information and the used programs and instruments delay from what their colleagues in these country use.

Importation problems

The main problems facing scientific research in developping countries are mainly:

1. The budget allowed by these countries as a percentage of their GDP is very low as compared to the hudge budgets allowed to security (police and the military as a mean of oppression of its own people).

2. The people in charge of the scientific research are not selected according to their competence and merits, but because they are supporting the dictators in place.

3. When researchers get some funds from outside the country, these funds are used by authorities and the administration for other purposes.

4. The agenda is sometimes dictated by the donors, and researchers are not working on issues that are important to the country.

5. There is a lack of coordination between researchers and they end up buying similar equipments that are underused.

6. The scientists that are active and doing good research aren't recognized nor encouraged.

7. Researchers are underpayed, and istead in focusing on research they struggle for living and look for opportunities which allow them to improve their income.

Political corruption plays important role in research funding in Serbia. Researchers who are closer to the ruling party get more funds than others. Politics should not be involved, while neutral mechanism should be adopted.

A plethora of challenges - at the strategic level - failure to align national research niche with auditable research skills and expertise. Lack of political will to invest in research skills capacitation that change country's economic scales. Limited and or shrinking budget to invest in research capacitation and capabilities.  Lack of efficacious varsity mentorship on research endeavours. Huge teaching/lecturing work load etc.  Scientific research space needs some rethinking to respond to current developments.

The big problem is that in developping countries we have a majority of responsibles in charge of scoientific research without a solid experience in the field. Several old profesors did not publish any thing. In their CV, they had one or two papers as first athor.

The major problems in developing countries with regards to research are funding and lack of trust during collaborations. It is easy to get collaborators but have some degree of understanding  in terms of exchange becomes difficult.

   Thank you so much for this impressive question. In addition to the problems you mentioned which might impede the researchers in developing countries from progress in scientific researches, there are another points as I believed (at least in my country):

1.       Evaluation of the scientific researches from the government is very weak in comparison with great work by the researchers

2.       Follow-up of patients are so weak so many researchers try to avoid researches which need a follow-up.

3.       Poor statistical arrangement of patients in many hospitals which might impede retrospective studies

4.       No file systems for the patients in most of our hospitals

5.       There are few scientific journals with high indexed quality

The availability of resources and financial support is one of the most important problems facing researchers in developing countries

The research fund is the most challenges in our country and security.

Distinctive question and deserve to answer it. In fact the funding is the main problem faces the scientific research in developing countries.

It seems one major problem is attracting qualified researchers to come to developing countries. Another is developing qualified researchers within developing countries.

The main problems are as follows; lack of funding, lack of political wil, irresponsibility and laxity in the part of government toward education especially at the tertiary level.

unfortunately many problems face Egyptian researchers as

1- funds but I overcame this problem when I applied for a master grant in the Academy of scientific Research and Technology in Egypt and take a fund from it for my master research.

2- lack of labs .... but we tries to work with our small labs and create the things which we need it with less cost which suit with us.

3- In Egypt, Only Teaching assistant have the rights to work in faculties and research centers labs easily But external ones face many problems until they can find a lab for their research work.

I think in every place there are problems but we should overcome these problems to get the things we want.

I think answer to this question completey different in pure sciences, applied sciences and human sciences:

In pure science, there are two aspects of theoretical and experimental science production, in theoretical one, developing countries have not difference with developed countries, except the naure and shape of questions and answers to fundamental questions of that science. While, in experimental works specially in Physics and chemistry and thire fields and tributaries, developing countries are so weak.

In applied scienced, researchers and scientists of developing countries followed the developed countries, thoroughly. Some of clear reasons are :

Lack of laboratory facilities, lack of sufficient knowledge to deal with modern issues or local issues in a new way, financial problem and livelihhod of scientists and researcherd etc.

In human science: The weakness of interdisciplinary science, political and ideological barries to research, lack of strong theorists etc.

In addition to the financial support, the way of the work. I think we should work in groups instead of working alone, and there are a lot of webs to help.

1. differentiated provisioning of higher educationopportunities.

2. institutional capacity and expertise in managing large scale research projects.

3. fuzzy policy directives on research and development.

5. paucity of infrastructure and platforms for high intensity research.

6. instutitutional cultures can dilute research foci.

7.economic scales and quintiles.

8. lack of political will to invest in resaeerch and development.

More time is dedicated to teaching. To make balance between resources and workload.

Lack of young researchers in certain scientific disciplines may be a huge problem. Too many young researchers have left the country for better life.
