Some people think that science has reached such a level of theoretical thought that it no longer needs philosophy. More important questions are:

We still don't really understand if science can be justified in finding the truth. Falsification is far easier to justify. And understanding the power and limits of science can only be done through learning the philosophy of science. Moreover, science is itself a form of philosophy, and is the successor of natural philosophy. It is therefore impossible to do science, without philosophy.
Philosophy is the very foundation of science; scientific methodology needs philosophy for its further development.The level of maturity of such reasoning mentioned is on the level of the technically competent barbarian.
Newton's debt to the philosophy of his day, as that to him, was routinely expressed and of course Einstein was the most philosophical of scientists, and without that attribute would indeed have made few advances. If we see societies as operating through the material fulfilment of ideas (philosophies in effect) than philosophy is indispensable.
