Over 800 million people go to their bed with an empty stomach every night. Malnutrition kills over 3 million children every year which is equivalent to 10 children every single minute! Kids are committing suicide in Pakistan and other part of the world to escape poverty and hunger.
People are dying because of over eating in the west while in Africa, the opposite is the case.
Because the "perfect market" model underpinning economics is not an accurate depiction of reality. Markets don't work like economists think they do. Largely, it is because of inequality of resource distribution and the mis-valuing of so-called assets and "commodities" such as food. Most economic models mistakenly assume perfect markets and perfect information, because anything else makes the sums too hard or the model doesn't work. Depressing.
