Job satisfaction is a broader term, at the micro-level, departmental head can plan a lot of strategies and tactics to make his or her team more satisfied, and while for the macro level, its the responsibility of the organization and particular HR Professionals to strategies job satisfaction action plans. I think its a rich concept and it demands preliminary knowledge of motivation, work environment factors that contribute in enhancement of job satisfaction. Moreover, JS varies from person to person. If you in top-tier your satisfaction level differ, mid-tier have different satisfaction level and blue-collar employee's satisfaction levels vary. I do hope these words will help to understand the jS.
For me, job satisfaction comes from Autonomy, Respect, trust, giving credit for good work, on time salary and other monetary staff statement, proper guidance and promotion policy. So far, for me these are key to my job satisfaction. I prefer non-monetary factors rather then monetary factors. Hopefully this will be helpful for your research.
job satisfaction is the relationship between the individual and his work and his work environment according Herzberg. It is the ouput of the individual motivation to work It depends on the theory you choose to explain the motivation I prefer the equity theory
Job satisfaction needs to be understood under a categorical perspective. Let see, what is a job? what is satisfaction?, later, what is job satisfaction? Meaning, we need to start from a basic definition of the concepts involved, avoiding reductionistic thinking or pluralistic approaches. This requires overflow social and cultural domains, even though "job satisfaction" is a product of a modern society that opens the possibilities to exercise supposed theories, supposed hypothesis that try to capture that "dimension". This leads erroneously researchers in the pursuit of a "satisfaction theorem" or formula" to prescribe the perfect conditions under a person can perform in a satisfied fashion. Assuming that there is no theorem (a strong and univocal definition or explanation) of satisfaction nor job, the interchange or yuxtapositioning of both terms results in a wide arrangement of adecuationistic perspectives that try over and over to find the "holy grail" of organizational practitioners to deploy powerful formulas. Those formulas fail again and again to maintain a satisfied workforce and curiously enough to report constantly a 70% (7:1 ratio) of satisfied over unsatisfied workers (or fully engaged to fully unengaged if you will). An objective perspective that avoids idealistic or too subjectual ideas over satisfaction or work, identifies specifics behaviors, actions, plans, supervision styles, leadership styles, work conditions, risks, environmental factors, and social determinants, to objectively proposed specific actions to consider in an individual basis what causes to a specific person happiness or satisafaction with his/her work notwithstanding neurological processes that need to be understood carefully when we correlate human responses in working situations where neural processes intermediate.
Job satisfaction is a multi-dimensional concept that measures a person’s satisfaction with his job, his environment and his relationships with his boss and colleagues in the office. By covering all 3 dimensions, one has a more accurate measure if job satusfaction.

First of all, we need to put clear or define what a dimension is. Starting from that concept, then we could elaborate on how satisfaction as a psychological response has supposedly dimensions, meaning we supposedly have the capacity to assess those traits or characteristics. Dimension is a geometrical concept and an abstract one to characterize space. Of course, is a sustantialistic concept when research assumes that such an entity exists and for then on, all we can do is rely on a metaphysical approximation to a behavioral problem in the workspace or organizational field.
In fact, I with my colleagues, have conducted a study for a new construct, Job Delight. Job satisfaction is a necessary but not a sufficient condition for experiencing job delight since satisfied employees are not necessarily delighted.
Thank you very much for your nice contribution. I agree with you that Job satisfaction depends on several different factors such as satisfaction with pay, promotion opportunities, fringe benefits, job security,
Although there are many determinants of job satisfaction and relative from one to another but i would recommend you to focus on motivational factors and hygiene factors since you need to determine your dimensions. Specially try to focus on motivational factors since they are the causes of satisfaction
I agree with your opinion that " there are many determinants of job satisfaction and relative from one to another but i would recommend you to focus on motivational factors and hygiene factors since you need to determine your dimensions. Job satisfaction is a concept where a person feels delighted and satisfied with not only his assigned tasks but towards the organization . But this satisfaction level differs from individual to individual as per their own set objectives and exactly what they are expecting from the organization.
But this is a very well known fact that now companies have very well realized that the employees represent their most valuable asset so the employer should work on culture and trust with their people and focus more on strengthening employee relations, employee retention, and engagement strategies.
Job satisfaction is integral of f( physiological, psychological, intellectual needs). The needs vary from person to person depending on his/her position in the organization structure. The needs at the bottom of the corporate ladder are mainly physiological needs. As the person moves up the corporate ladder, other needs that is psychological and intellectual needs get added. Job satisfaction also depends on psychosocial and emotional attachment.

Job satisfaction is important not just because it boosts work performance but also because it increases quality of life.
Everyone’s job is different but here are 10 factors that psychologists regularly report as important in how satisfied people are with their jobs.
1. Little hassles
If you ask doctors what the worst part of their jobs are, what do you think they say? Carrying out difficult, painful procedures? Telling people they’ve only got months to live? No, it’s something that might seem much less stressful: administration.
We tend to downplay day-to-day irritations, thinking we’ve got bigger fish to fry. But actually people’s job satisfaction is surprisingly sensitive to daily hassles. It might not seem like much but when it happens almost every day and it’s beyond our control, it hits job satisfaction hard.
This is one of the easiest wins for boosting employee satisfaction. Managers should find out about those little daily hassles and address them—your employees will love you for it.
2. Perception of fair pay
Whatever your job, for you to be satisfied the pay should be fair. The bigger the difference between what you think you should earn and what you do earn, the less satisfied you’ll be.
If you perceive that other people doing a similar job get paid about the same as you then you’re more likely to be satisfied with your job than if you think they’re getting more than you.
3. Achievement
People feel more satisfied with their job if they’ve achieved something. In some jobs achievements are obvious, but in others they’re not. As smaller cogs in larger machines it may be difficult to tell what we’re contributing. That’s why the next factor can be so important…
4. Feedback
There’s nothing worse than not knowing whether or not you’re doing a good job. When it comes to job satisfaction, no news is bad news. Getting negative feedback can be painful but at least it tells you where improvements can be made. On the other hand, positive feedback can make all the difference to how satisfied people feel.
5. Complexity and variety
People find jobs satisfying if they are more complex and offer variety. People seem to like complex (but not impossible) jobs, perhaps because it pushes them more. Too easy and people get bored.
6. Control
You may have certain tasks you have to do, but how you do them should be up to you. The more control people perceive in how they carry out their job, the more satisfaction they experience.
If people aren’t given some control, they will attempt to take it. Psychologists have found that people who work in jobs where they have little latitude find their work stressful and unsatisfying.
7. Organisational support
Workers want to know their organisation cares about them; that they are getting something back for what they are putting in. This is communicated through things like how bosses treat us and the fringe benefits we get. If people perceive more organisational support, they experience higher job satisfaction.
8. Work–home overflow
Low job satisfaction isn’t only the boss’ or organisation’s fault, sometimes it’s down to home-life. Trouble at home breeds trouble at the office.
9. Honeymoons and hangovers
Job honeymoons and hangovers are often forgotten by psychologists but well-known to employees. People experience honeymoon periods after a month or two in a new job when their satisfaction shoots up. But then it normally begins to tail off after six months or so.
10. Easily pleased?
Some of us are more easily satisfied (or dissatisfied) than others, no matter how good (or bad) the job is. To misquote a famous cliché: You can’t satisfy all the people all the time.
With a little thought, most of the predictors of satisfaction can be provided.
If you’re a manager looking to improve satisfaction at your workplace then start with point number 1: find out about people’s little hassles and address them. It might not look like much but people will really appreciate it.
Job satisfaction is one of the most important factors for employee stability. There is no doubt that the level of performance of people in their work decreases when they are not satisfied with their jobs, the most important factors of job satisfaction
The most important thing is how to establish a good relationship with your colleagues, give a good impression of you, and provide evidence of the completion of your assigned work in a satisfactory manner to your superiors.
It is my personal observation of last five decades that when the Head/Chief on an Organization or Institute does keep the same latitude with every employees, problem of job dissatisfaction occurs. Moreover, keeping good relations with every body, doing hard work, and contributing to the Organization, may not always give you job satisfaction.
Working Environment, organization discipline, personal attitude, fulfillment of ambitions (promotion, skill knowledge improvement, Wellfare measures by organization, Certinity of employment...), Conginial atomospher in work place, are Major factors for the job satisfaction of positive thinking employee. Only the culmination of different factors provide satisfaction in Job situation. Personally, I feel no single factor provides Job satisfaction.
I agree with you Dr. Béatrice Marianne Ewalds-Kvist. Love is the key , When you love what you do, nothing depresses you or prevents you from realizing your dreams.
I agree with Nasser Said Gomaa Abdelrasheed that job satisfaction is the result of a combination of various factors. I'll confine my comments to an academic job. Security of tenure, love for teaching and research, opportunities for excellence in teaching and research such as well equipped lecture rooms, libraries and laboratories, e-resources, research funds, reasonable teaching loads, and a congenial work environment all contribute to job satisfaction.
I can see that job satisfaction comes from the willingness of the person to do his job in a satisfying way.Besides, the environmental conditions, basically the people you are working with and the justice of the authorities. This also includes the country itself. If there is respect and appreciation this will nourish the person's satisfaction.
I think one of the keys is to work on what you enjoy doing. In this way, job becomes a kind of hobby. Of course this only happens to very lucky people who can afford it, and I was very lucky indeed. Other people must try to think that in days like the present, it is already a great fortune to have a job and that those who are without one, and they are really many, certainly do not have the problem of enjoying their job!
One may raise a number of points but for me, the culture of the institution is the major one. I mean having a collaborative institutional culture in the respective institution is the main factor for job satisfaction.
The major key of getting satisfied with the job is love.when you love and enjoy doing your job you will definitely feel satisfied .This iswhen you see that what you are doing is benefitable to others.
As Heraclitus said "We would call oxen happy when they find bitter vetch to eat. (Albertus Magnus, On Vegetables 6.401 = DK 22 B4). Meaning, that a complex array of circumstances determine the "satisfaction" beyond mere happiness or joy with the task. Under these premises, it is necessary to arrange a concept that includes more precise elements that when properly array, impacts the state of well-being of a person in the work environment. Not a simplistic proposal, nor a complexity that blurs the concept, but a recognition of subjectivistic and objectivistic dimensions (psychological-emotional and material), that interexchange differently from one person to another, from one organization to another and from one country to another, and only we can grasp why, here in Venezuela for example, lacking material resources, people can be happy and satisfied with the job at hand.
