I have been working on formation of Acrylic hydrogels (Both acid and amide) with high mechanical strength intended for drug delivery and tissue engineering. Our target is to increase the strength through covalent cross-linking of Silica Nano-particles within polymeric gel matrix. What is the range of tensile strength in both cases of pure Polyacrylic acid & Polyacrylamide hydrogel and their nano-composite with silica nano-particles in the applications of tissue engineering and drug delivery? Is there any specific (International) data sheet?

Dear Suraia, to my knowledge, there are no specific data sheets for these mechanical properties. This is simply because the properties you need depend mainly on the mechanical properties of the tissue that you intend to engineer (I am discussing the tissue engineering applications). Since you are concerned with hydrogels, then I assume that you will be dealing with soft tissue engineering. Fats, fibrous tissue and nerves are all soft tissues but still they have different mechanical properties so you should better start by determining which tissue you intend to use the hydrogel to engineer, and then search for the mechanical properties of this native tissue. Another option is to search the literature for the mechanical properties of scaffolds that have been successfully used to engineer this tissue. Good luck
