Wildlife corridor is an important prospect regarding survival of wild. But nowadays the use of Remote Sensing and GIS has increased for its study. My question is at what extent the results of this study applicable in reality in means of conservation purpose.
And also the landscape also plays a role in this ?
@ Sonica, It is an area habitat connecting wildlife populations separated by human activities or structures such as roads, development or logging. Corridors are critical for maintenance of ecological processes including allowing for the movement of animals and the continuation of viable populations. It allow for the increase in gene flow between small and fragmented wild populations. This is important for maintaining biodiversity through the conservation of potentially local population in the wild which are in risk and has proven to greatly improve species richness.

Indeed, RS, GIS and other digital tools are used to asses actual and potential corridors. May I suggest your read our articles on elephant corridors Ngene et al. 2010 and Pittiglio et al. 2012. Sustainability of these corridors depends on effective Land Use Zoning outside protected areas.
Further, you may have a look under ecoduct/wildlife crossing for infrastructure operational and effective for decades in the Netherlands (e.g. red deer). Most publications are in Dutch, but the photograph circulating on the web are instructive. Also in these multiple cases, Land Use Zoning is essential.

With the increasing occurrence of habitat fragmentation caused by city developments, road construction, and clearing of land for agriculture, the chance for wildlife to be adversely affected continues to grow. As a way to combat the negative effects of habitat fragmentation, wildlife corridors an be an effective tool to help sustain wildlife populations, habitats, and thus overall biodiversity. Now more than every, with the current rate of extinction, it's crucial to find and implement solutions to help conserve what species we still have and the habitats they live in.
