In my view, Role Model concept is part of transformational leadership and ethical leadership. in turn, it is a soul of authentic transformational leadership. In present business scenario, there is a need for leaders with ethical values and sustainability mindset. Role model concept plays a major role in leadership development and new generation learns the behavior and hence the leadership p from the current leaders taking them as their role models. I want to know the opinion of research scholars and leadership gurus on my view.
Leaders are in positions of power and their decisions impact others: therefore, it is imperative that their values should have strong ethical foundations and, above all, that these be aligned with external behaviors and actions that advance the common good.

As rightly mentioned by Prof Olivier, leadership is to be considered at every level.Supervisors are at lower and mid level. Top level play a major role in bringing values in the organizations and they play bigger role as role models. Thanks for your reply and article.

I support what Oliver Serrat said and add that despite the paradigm shift in leadership, leaders remain "social architects", they must unite the members of the organization around its mission, vision and goals. I.e. they must manage the corporate culture. In the context of your question, this culture should seek to encourage the formation of communities that share the same ethical values.

I agree, leaders should have awareness that others consider them as role models and use this to build the behaviours that are needed to support and develop the culture of an organisation, setting a pathway for others to follow.
Krishna, this is an important question worth debating. Going by Fiedler's (1964) model of ascertaining leadership effectiveness, the centrality of role model in not only leadership development but also ethicality not only signal the need to have leaders who project their characteristics and behaviours as worthy of modelling but also a concomitant need to develop the requisite leadership attitudes from leaders and those aspiring to hold leadership positions. i agree with you that role of other members is important and they become role models'. Role Models are at each level of every organization wither professional or social. Even peers can be a role model. Ethical behavior is utmost important but surprisingly there is big difference in saying and practicing.
