What is the importance of mud logging in tracking feed zones in Geothermal or Gas and Oil drillings?

Is there any publication refers to mud parameters like pH, viscosity, geochemicals etc. and there meanings regarding to feed zones? What should we look to get better understand for further stimulations and operations?

I think you can find very detailed information from this book especially from this author; Petroleum Geochemistry and Geology, Second Edition by John M. Hunt (1996), W. H. Freeman and Company. In this book, they explain very detail from oil rigging to petroleum chemical analysis.

Other than that, there are some short publications on petroleum geochemistry like attached. You may also find their references cited useful.
