Nowadays Cerium containing metal oxides are popular in oxidation reactions.  One reason for its importance is, it is new to the catalysis field.  Other than that Is there any reason?  It is known that transition metal ions are useful as oxidation catalysts due to the multiple stable oxidation state.  However, a particular metal is active for particular oxidation.  This phenomina I could not explain.  If anybody knows, please share it.
