Green management is a new and organization-wide process of applying innovation to achieve sustainability, waste reduction, social responsibility, and competitive advantage via continuous learning and development and by embracing environmental goals and strategies that are fully integrated with the goals and strategies of the organization. Then regional development is a completely different aspect because is partially covered by the public administration, how would you characterize the impact which green management has over the regional development?
Regions that rely on green management are expected to consume less non renewable energy which assists to reserve them for future use. Further, green energy is clean and hence, the cost of mitigating pollution and health hazard is comparatively less. This way they have a better standing in the development of the region on the long run, though in the short run they might have to lose a few advantages.
The question you ask is very difficult to answer, it has an answer for the countries of the developed world and another for the underdeveloped countries. In developed countries, green management is a sign of competition, of colonization of markets by the most competitive companies internationally. In this block of countries, the public administration can cover the expenses of these developments, especially those related to science, technology and technological innovation. Here the impact of the green management on the regional development is very positive because, on the previous bases, the productions would have assured a market that guarantees the profits, the return of the realized investments. However, the situation is much more complex in underdeveloped countries, here the green management for regional development is almost nonexistent. These countries, generally, do not have where to obtain financing to cover the scientific - technological development and the technological innovation projects that the realization of green management requires. From this perspective, green management is not a source of development of the regional economy, rather it becomes another way for the indebtedness of these economies with transnational capital. Furthermore, in the circumstances of the globalized economy in which the underdeveloped countries compete in conditions of inequality in a single market where all countries with less development concur, they will always be harmed. These economies, even when they place on the market novelty items, the costs of their production will be very high in relation to the underdeveloped countries. That is why I believe that green management will not have a positive impact on regional development, it can generate economic growth, but not development. Here, in the underdeveloped south, everything is different. It is not green management that will get these countries to develop their economies. A structural change is needed in the bases of these economic models and it will not be green management that will solve these problems.
