Constructed wetlands (CW) are important system for wastewater treatment. The combined industrial wastewater with sewage water contains heavy metals at variable level. On the other hand, vascular plants are part of the CW that play an important role. Heavy metals in the wastewater could have an adverse impact on performance of such vascular plant.

In fact the accumulation of heavy metals by such vascular plants were studied extensively. The results revealed that the uptake of metals varied according to the plant type as well as the part of of the plant, namely: roots, stems, or leaves.
