Drug information services are now becoming more decentralized. In most of the cases, it is fragmented, not coordinated as a center. A well-connected network of pharmacists with drug information skills could impact better patient outcomes. What research models could capture this impact? I am also wondering why one of the most core services (drug information) is a neglected area of research, journals are not interested to publish. Which methods of drug information research are needed, of course, what is in current use is more of descriptive in nature. Drug information research needs to be more of outcomes research, but which study designs will suit?

Our entire medical system is fragmented. I work in psychiatry and getting lab results from PCP's is not happening. I have to run my own labs so I get results. This wastes a ton of tax payer money through duplication of services.
Pharmacies refill meds even with no refills ordered. I go 6 months without seeing someone and they show me the bottle and sure enough, refill after refill without an order from me. (I used to complain but it is so common now). I wish I had access to meds the person takes as well. Nice area of research and greatly needed. Fragmented medical care wastes money.
Well equipped Drug information units can definitely provide this service in a very efficient manner. Information could be very handy in dealing with emergencies like poisoings, drug overdose and any query regarding drug dosage, adverse effects, contraindications , interactions and precautions. Both healthcare professionals and consumers should have access to such inforlation. It should be uniform, validated
, updated and evidence based.
