Monocultural nationalism illustrated by the rise of populist anti immigrant sentiment and political rhetoric in some EU states has been fuelled by the recent economic downturn.
humanitarian flag of European union goes against them in the direction of forcing sucha diverce cultures melt in a pot; they do not have much of choice except establishing similar mosaic system of Cananda, of course, if EU sevives for long as you think.
Interesting viewpoint, although the EU constitutes a mosaic of sovereign states, and therefore is more politically diverse than Canada, Moreover, although Canada has a diverse population, it is a former colony unlike most EU states, many of which are former colonial masters. The relationship between the majority and minorities in that context may be influenced by.structural factors e.g. historical as well as cultural differences..
Dear Francesca, I have not tried to make reference to "the politicization of facts" in this thread nor had I realised I had done so. From a realist point of view I do not believe any one country should be responsible for push-pull factors of migration, nor do I believe that the human rights of immigrants should be abused. From a cosmopolitan point of view, one hopes that greater collaboration between the UN, regional human rights bodies and sovereign states will address the issue as a part of the UN Post 2015 Development Agenda, See http://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2014/oct/24/human-rights-migrants-new-development-agenda-un-special-rapporteur-francois-crepeau
World War II was fuelled by economic downturn and general poverty. Hunger and depression caused anger and resentment, unlocking monstrous behaviour in human beings. The sovereign states of the European Union pledged never again. One market, open borders and multiculturalism were offered as a solution. Today, we are still experiencing the consequences of the last financial and economic crisis; unemployment is still sky high (especially with young people). People (especially in the UK) need to learn from the past. Anti-immigrant sentiments are NOT the solution to difficult financial situations. We need to work together not the other way round.
Thanks for your comment Kristina, although if anti immigrant sentiments in European capitals are representative of national populations, the UK is not the worst offender in that regards according to http://www.euronews.com/2014/10/21/is-athens-least-welcoming-capital-in-europe-for-foreigners/ ...
Ade Olaiya I do not think or agree that you were addressing either politicization of facts or about the manipulation of facts (by certain Ideologists) , though, some may think this is from where you speak and thus, disagreeing with your comment on that basis.
This appears to be a problem all over the world, though differing in extent and manifestation. However, the mosaic/multilingual view of Canada is a myth, where racism and discrimination are alive and well, despite all their multicultural- intentioned policies.
Thank you Mary-Helen, I agree with you that there is certainly room for improvement in Canada, as well as here in Europe, and in fact globally in terms of the Durban Declaration, International Convention for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination etc. The use of social media also has increased global awareness of realities, which can be used to promote race equality, and reparative work where related large scale human rights violations occur..
Thanks for those answers which remained objective. I'm too busy with my research to follow this thread further at this time, but feel free to leave your comments ...http://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2014/oct/29/todays-key-fact-you-are-probably-wrong-about-almost-everything ... A bientot.
Particularly I perceive this issue by the prism and lenses of constitutional pluralism. I agree with modern scholars who are indicated that pluralism is more suitable concept than multiculturalism to tackle all the contemporary challenges faced mankind globally. In the light of this thesis, I will offer you very comprehensive research paper published by Global Constitutionalism on 2013.

I deeply believe that this kind of perception of legal or constitutional ideas will help you to construe the robust framework for your paper and concretely to your answer.
