Now that the COVID-19 vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna, Astra-Zenica Oxford) are available and are being used in many countries, anaphylactic reactions, report of transverse myelitis like reactions and even encephalitis are making people scared of the vaccine. Things are made worse by the emergence of British variant of SARS-CoV-2.
Although these side-effects may be related to adjuvants in vaccines and the neurological effects may be coincidental due to other viruses, these reports in the media, although it may represent one in 10000 or 100000, could reduce the acceptance of COVID-19 vaccines.
There is need to upgrade the vaccines to make the vaccines as much side-effect free as possible. It may take 2-3 years due to logistic issues, cost, and myths about vaccine before COVID-19 could be defeated completely.
