It is inevitable kind of computing in the future as the next generation computing is based on technologies which are basically reversible. So when the underlying physical realizations of computing become reversible, it also dictates the reversibility at logical level.

According to Landuer, the energy is dissipated whenever we are having any logical operation done on the machine ,This happens because of the universality of the thermodynamic laws where Entropy is increased whenever there is an operation that doesn't have every operation having the unique and different answer . This forms the basis of Reversible Logic where we have only one is to one correspondence b/w the input and the output.

Present day circuits dissipated power of the order of nano-watts which is comparatively 3-4 magnitude larger than the power lost due to entropy change.

Actual Advantage

so the present day circuits don't have such problems with the power loss of this order but when in future when we will be having the circuits having very low power loss it will become comparable and thus we need to design circuits that are reversible in nature.

Aneesh Raveendran , The main advantage of using reversible computing is the dissipation of heat consumption and also nowadays, several applications of it are there in the technology world like Quantum computing, low power CMOS, nanotechnology, optical computing.

The intent and purposes for developing reversible logic are to reduce the quantum cost, the complexity of the circuits, and the garbage outputs. Without developing reversible computing, it is impossible to ascertain quantum computing.
