Dear Dr. Kim,

a proven technology for  separating magnesium from ore containing magnesite (MgCO3) and serpentine (3MgO'2SiO2) is flotation with oleic acid. - Process works via saponification of the alkaline earth metal.

As equipment you need a Denver agitation cell (or equal), and a laboratory ball mill to grind the ore down to maybe 70 micrometer. Kindly use a foaming agent, with no collection ability. - That will work!

I forgot to add, that sometimes the old methods of ore dressing work best. - Unfortunately the great flotation gurus are either in retirement or already dead. - Consequently it helps to read the old books of Taggert, Gaudin, maybe Bierbrauer und Gründer (in German). Even if their books don't have an impact factor ;-).
