I am using G*power to perform a sensitivity analysis for a one-way MANOVA. The analysis suggested my study had a minimum detectable effect size of f^2(V) = .01.
I was not quite sure about this effect size f^2(V).
Is it just the effect size f^2 for pillai?
Usually f^2 refers to an effect size proposed by Jacob Cohen for regression equations. (See Cohen, 1988, Statistical Power Analysis for the Behavioral Sciences). But I don't know how it applies in MANOVA.

To your specific question, does the computed value (using the "Sensitivity" option, which solves for ES) using G*Power for a manova problem yield the f^2 associated with Pillai's trace (V): Yes.
Cohen's f^2 is a ratio of explained variation divided by unexplained variation (where the two values: explained, unexplained, sum to 1). It has been likened to a "signal" to "noise" ratio, from communications research.
