What is the effect of tannery effluent on soil?

Tannery effluent contains a huge amount of heavy metals and chemicals.

The tannery effluent decrease total porosity and hydraulic conductivity of soil, and increase the bulk density of soil, due to direct accumulation of large quantities of organic and inorganic material.

Tannery effluent treated soil mostly rich in Na, Cr, Mg. Mn, K, Fe, that directly effect plat growth development.

The Na interact with exchange complex, which cause de-flocculation.
