Chrysoperla is a generalist predator of many insect pests, however the eggs are parasitized by several species of microhymenopteran wasps like the one in the photograph. I wonder the impact of these egg parasitoids in the predatory efectiveness of Chrysoperla to controlling insect pests. Any idea about the ID of this parasitoid from Colombia ? thank you.

We are working on mass multiplication crysocard, we release the same in the field but till today we had not observed parasitoid in south Gujarat, India. Now we will plan to parasitize the eggs of crysoperla by various parasitoides under laboratory conditions.

I found this reference by Karut et. al 2003. Natural Parasitism of Chrysoperla carnea by Hymenopterous Parasitoids in Cotton-Growing Areas of Cukurova, Turkey.
They mention that A 4-year study of parasitoids attacking Chrysoperla carnea (Stephens) in the cotton fields of Cukurova, Turkey, revealed the activities of three principal taxa: Telenomus sp. nr. suvae attacks the eggs of C. carnea: Catolaccus sp. and Baryscapus sp. are larval and pupal parasitoids, respectively. In general, percent egg parasitism increased starting from the second half of June and into July, then decreased until the beginning of August before rising again at the end of growing season. During the early season, weekly parasitism was found to be as high as 94%. Overall, seasonal egg parasitism varied between 13.6% and 62.0% among all study sites. According to the results of a one-year field study at Hacıali, total larval and pupal parasitism was found to be 12.5% and 55.6%, respectively. Therefore, different factors influencing the effectiveness of the generalist predator C. carnea against cotton pests, and the differential effects of cotton treatments on both host and parasitoids, need to be evaluated.

Constantino has summarized what should be expected as effect of the egg parasitoid of the biological agent. The overall effect will depend on level of the egg parasitism and rate of increase of the agent, plus environmental factors, eg temperature and humidity regimes.

Answer from subject expert- Many members of families- Eulophidae, Encyrtidae, Trichogrammatidae, Perilampidae, Pteromalidae are known to parasitize various species of chrysopids. However, we have not come across high percentage of percent parasitism in an alarming manner. Though there are here and there reports on natural parasitism.

Chrysoperla carnea and other chrysopid sp are the very efficient predator in Noth and East region of India, i had seen , specially in winter season., it is exploited in Biocontrol programme but more potential is to be exploited
