what is the desired on the insulation system is to select an insulation material with high dielectric strength and high dielectric constant or a material with high dielectric strength but with a low dielectric constant?
I am a part of a team now designing an axial flux PMSM. the problem with me now is selecting a material with high dielectric constant decreases the stress on the insulation, however, if the insulation contains any air voids it will subject to high electric field stress.
we cannot grantee 100% that the insulation will not have air voids.
so, in general, is it the best way to choose a material with high dielectric strength but with low dielectric constant?

if you want to store charges with a high energy density then you must combine high dielectric strength with a high dielectric constant.

Dear Mohamed, The dielectric constant determines the polarizability of the dielectric and therefore the capacitance. With increasing dielectric constant, capacitance grows, therefore, I suppose that for insulator systems a high dielectric constant is bad, since such insulators will accumulate static electricity. However, on the contrary, for capacitive systems this is good. For you, the perfect dielectric is vacuum. Therefore, I suppose you should strive for high breakdown voltages and low dielectric constants.

I think picking an insulation system with a lower dielectric constant is the best option in my case. this will make the stress to a certain extent equally distributed if there is an air void in the insulation.
Generally speaking, the lower the permittivity, the better for insulation system. so, the designer should select insulation with lower permittivity and higher dielectric strength.
