I have a young athlete who was scheduled for a CT scan w/contrast but his creatinine level was 1.4 and the test was postponed. He takes 5 gr of creatine each day and does heavy weight lifting for his college team. Any ideas?
Hi Jordan----thanks for the quick and thoughtful response. It makes perfect sense. FYI----I helped myself to a few of your other co-authored papers. 2 questions: (1) what was the dose of the beta alanine; and (2) was the benefit of "Assault" significant? Thanks again Tom
I have co-autored an article about this topics more than 10 years ago. Old stuff !

I'm not sure that the results are still valid, because I have not followed the recent developpement in creatine supplementation since many years.
However, we found that 30g/day (!) of creatine intake increased significantly creatinine serum level from 1.20mg/dl to 1.46mg/dl. After one week wash-out, it goes down back to 1.23. Of course, this increase is for a much higher dose than the 5g/day that you mention.
Thanks so much. The athlete was off the creatine (5 gm/day) for 3 days and his repeat creatinine went from 1.4 to 1.34....so it looks like we're not dealing with any renal dysfunction (the BUN was 23 and the UA was perfect), merely the effect of additional creatine. We will montior this and I'll let you know what develops. But, in the meantime, thanks so much for your help. Tom
