Urban fabric describes urban form and characteristics, while spatial pattern is defined as a clear and repeated arrangement or combination relationship of spatial objects (such as buildings and roads). What is the connection between them?
The urban fabric concept can be likened to a quilt, every aspect of the urban environment is physically or functionally connected in some regard. Spatial pattern is just any generic or general pattern based on spatial connectivity. The connection is that while spatial patterns are a way of mentally connecting distinct spatial units, urban fabric can be interpreted as a specific spatial pattern used to describe urban connectivity.
Urban fabric mainly deals mainly with social components whereas the spatial provides information about the size or position and region/area providing more complete information about the characteristics of fabric.
