I was wondering if there is any difference between the commercially available Noble agar and Select agar?
The molecular formulas seem to be the same, but there is a large difference in prices.
Are these manufactured in different ways or have different levels of purity?
Agar Grade A has all the essential minerals for bacterial growth and used primarily for microbiological applications. Noble Agar or agar-agar is extensively washed and bleached. Purity is superior and hence it is recommended for applications where extreme clarity and high purity are required. Noble agar is used for immunodiffusion and electrophoretic applications and also to grow tumor spheroids and perform soft agar assay with tumor cells that grow as spheroids.
