Today, I read a paper named "electromagnetic and electrical modeling by the finite element method". There is a sentence that I donot understand clearly.
Approximations are involved in using non-infinitestimal elements and finite meshes of elements. It is usually necessary to pay more attention to mesh size than texture (element size).
I can understand the the first sentence, but not for the second. especially for the mesh size and texture (element size). What is the differece between the mesh size and texture (element size)?
In general, they are the same thing. Meshing is the discrete representation of the geometry which partitioned the space in to elements to approximate the equations. A mesh is a list of elements, nodes, and other data that describes the computational domain.The selection of mesh type and size will let the software automatically sets the elements.
"Mesh size" sounds unclear in this context. I guess, Yu Xiang is right, they mean the size of the whole domain and the size of one element.
Usually, you need to create a mesh that covers your domain of interest (and may extend further). This strongly depends on type of your problem and boundary conditions used in the FE method. Element size should be chosen to capture the variations in the EM field and it depends on many parameters (order of elements, frequency, material properties, etc)
