I have a partner in the laboratory that don't believe me (Miguel at Antioquia University- Colombia) about what is the difference between intermediate and intermediary?
Is it correct that intermediate and intermediary are the same concepts? and besides are isolable substances?
Can you give me a strong reference about that difference 'cause in the IUPAC gold book I only found the definition of intermediate?

The intermediary is intermediate while intermediate is being between two extremes, or in the middle of a range.

I agree with Hassan and Khalid. However, it is also important to note that the term "intermediary" has other meanings than in the lab.
For example,
(1) an intermediary often acts as a "go-between".
(1.1) He is a useful go-between (intermediary) in the lab.
(1.12) The young technician understands how to stop squabbles among lab personnel at an early stage before their infighting escalates into a conflagration.
