Hello everyone,
I would like to know if someone have a reference or a possible explanation about if ketones (2-propanone or ethyl acetate) could coordinate to iron (metal or cation)?
Since ketones present two pair of free electron availables, I suppose that could coordinate to iron because this metal present a free d-orbital.
Nevertheless, I did not found an article or research about this.
Could some one help me?

I think it´s more common that iron cations form ´stable´ complexes with alkoxydes and acetates rather than ketones. Most likely, iron can coordinate weakly to ketones but I think the reactivity associated with this type of coordination is much less common than other types of reactivity related to iron and ketones (i.e. hydrogenation of ketones):

Also, you can take a look at the CCDC crystal database to check if there are existing iron-ketone complexes (I did a quick search but I only found iron complexes with alkoxydes and acetates).

I can't remember a specific article about iron at the moment (I'll have a look in my library, though), but since Fe(II) and Fe(III) often are used as Lewis acids, you can check textbooks or articles on other Lewis acids like Mg(II) or Al(III). This review

for example has a broad overview of its applications including with ketones, but most of the time there's not too much mechanistic studies, especially since Lewis acid - ketone interactions are quite an old topic.
