The difference between HMA and WMA:
Different authorities have defined different temperature ranges for these two types of mixtures. Based on the Illinois Asphalt Pavement Association Scholarship:
* A batch of HMA consists of aggregate and a viscous binding agent and is produced at a temperature range of about 300-350 ° F (149-177 °C).
** A batch of WMA is produced at a temperature range of 50-100 ° F (10-38°C) less than a batch of HMA.
Laboratory Procedural Differences:
HMA is typically produced between 275-350 ° F (135- 177°C); while WMA can be produced 100 degrees lower (38°C).
The HMA mixture should be poured at a specific temperature (greater than 10°C). The WMA mixture is sensitive to temperature changes because they are produced at a lower temperature. Are there special temperature conditions for WMA mixes that have a lower temperature range?

Warm mix asphalt is manufactured and shipped at lower temperatures while Hot mix asphalt is poured at a high temperature
Warm mix asphalt (WMA) is a relatively new and emerging technology for the asphalt Industry. The goal of WMA is to produce mixtures with similar strength, durability, and performance characteristics as HMA using substantially reduced production temperatures. It offers potential construction and environmental advantages over traditional hot mix asphalt (HMA). Several new processes have been developed to reduce the mixing and compaction temperature of hot mix asphalt without scarifying the quality of resulting pavement. Research in the laboratory was carried out to determine if the addition of (WMA) has potential to increase the stability comparison with hot mix asphalt (HMA).
The aggregates and asphalt cement are heated above 300°F during mixing and kept hot during transport by truck, placement (where it is spread on the roadway by an asphalt paving machine), and compaction (where it is compacted by a series of asphalt roller machines) of the asphalt mixture
