Growth and development are often used together in a sentence, whether it is talking about a person, a business or even the economy. However, what does growth and development actually mean and how are they similar or different than each other.
Your comments and contributions are highly appreciated
For me, growth is quantitative while development is both quantitative and qualitative.
An example: A human child is growing when his body grows. However, this necessarily does not mean that he is maturing mentally. His stages of mental development would be from child to adolescent to teenager to young adult to adult.
In economics, if 10 person among a total of 1000 persons of a country are having income of 1000 crore each, and rest 990 persons having total income of 1 crore in a year, the country may be considered as having good growth rate.
But it may be a underdeveloped country!
Growth is usually used in reference to size or physical development. Development overall is a more general and envelop term than growth. Development includes growth, but also includes other aspects of improvement or development.
The difference between growth and development depends on the context, the jargon in which the terms are being used.
Growth and development refers to changes over a period of time. The difference is that growth is quantitative and value neutral. This means that the change may be either positive or negative
Development means a quantitative change which is always value positive
The terms Growth and Development are used with every aspect of life. There might be some confusion when using the terms as they are often used interchangeably. Growth is just ‘getting bigger’, whereas development is improvement.

Growth is a process of expanding or becoming large over a certain period. It specifically has nothing to do as far as qualitative expansion is concerned or in other words it is a term which depicts quantitative enlargement of a particular thing.
Development is a wider term and includes growth i.e it is more of a comprehensive concept which not only includes quantitative enlargement but also includes qualitative expansion.
Growth may or may not be good for a particular criteria (or at least in economics..) but Development more often signifies a positive attitude.
Development means having all-rounded growth in all areas like Education, Infrastructure, Manufacturing and Services industry and also a functioning governance endowed with natural resources. On the ranking of UN’s Human development Index (HDI), there is a formula to calculate the developed-ness of the developed countries. Some developing countries with high growth rates can go quite high up in the list. They remain developing as they did not fulfil all aspects of the development definition
Growth: Growth is a change in the physical aspects. It is a cellular process that stops at the stage of sufficiency. It is part of development. It has quantitative, qualitative and accurately quantifiable types. There is human growth, economic growth and other types of growth based on the same principle. Human growth: Human growth is based on the biological events that cause you, including the body to grow naturally in the early stages of your life. Economic growth: is a concept that reflects the increase in the real country level of GNP that can be caused by the increase in the quality of resources, or the quantity increase, the technological improvements, or reflects the increase in the value of the goods and services produced by the different sectors and can be measured through the increase In the GDP of a particular country.
Development: Development includes the development of many things, shown by the qualitative improvement of conditions, the development of certain processes to meet the general needs. Human development: It is a product of psychological and social development, emphasizing the environmental and behavioral factors of the individual, and expressed in maturity. Economic development: Increasing living standards and improving the needs of self-esteem and freedom from injustice. This is a normative concept that aims to develop and improve living conditions to increase economic growth, measured by literacy rates and factors affecting productivity in a country.
Major differences between growth and development: Growth is a change in the physical aspects of the individual and society, while development is a gradual change of the individual and society. Growth is cellular followed by change in shape, and development is structural change and functional advancement. Growth stops at a certain point in time, but development continues. Growth is part of the development process, but the reverse is not true. There are quantitative and qualitative types of growth, but development does not exist. Accurate measurements of growth can be obtained, while development can not be measured accurately
I think;
Growth = Development in a vertical way
Development = Development in a horizontal way

For me, growth is quantitative while development is both quantitative and qualitative.

Growth means the growth of work, the expansion of fields or the renewal of new areas or areas in order to seek more profits and investments either development means the development of better ways in the implementation of work and supervision and management such as software or modern machines in the sense of using the latest technology in the project and gives better productivity at a lower cost While ensuring quality control.
Good question. It is a little difficult to separate these two concepts, all know what they mean together and in what sense they are used, but individually mostly associate the same with minimal differences in perception.
Growth and development have specific meaning as far as plants are concerned. The irreversible increase in plant size accompanied by changes in form is growth. It includes cell division (increase in number) and cell enlargement (increase in size). The differentiation of cells into tissues, organs, and mature plants is ‘development’. Crop production is actually manipulation of growth and development of selected crops to make the most efficient use of resources and to maximize economic yield.
Exactly dear respected colleagues; Segun Michael Abegunde @Vladimir Mirkovic I agree with your conceptions, but @Vladimir Mirkovic growth is just quantitative while development is both quantitative and qualitative.
Kind Regards,
Fouzia Chergui.
They have different meanings based on the structure of sentences as in the economic activity or the agriculture sector might refer to various things.
In human beings everyone can grow mostly but not everybody can be developed and so on based on how to use it.
Main differences between growth and development are:
1. Growth refers to increase in physical aspects of the organisation whereas development refers to overall changes in the whole of the organism.
2. Growth is structural whereas development is functional.
3. Growth is quantitative whereas development is qualitative.
4. Growth is cellular whereas development is organizational.
5. Growth stops when the organisation reaches the stage of maturity whereas development is a life long process.
6. Growth involves body changes whereas development involves changes from origin to maturity.
7. Growth influences the process of development, but not always whereas development occurs without growth.
Hii mam.
According to my concept, growth is related to increasing in size, number etc. while development is related to body’s functional improvement.
Growth sounds like it may be more focused narrowly on one or two aspects, for example, the amount of your wealth or the number of your publications. Development appears to encompass more characterological qualities - how experiences have shaped your life, how you have learned, how you have helped humanity, how you have contributed to the world of research, etc.. which is a continuous and lifelong process
I feel growth & development are coin of two side starting with growth for our action it may certainly pave the wave for our development .
For every person who have faith within himself certainly think for his growth by wave of his education ,hobbies , & by keeping his eyes open in the line with the electronic media he can certainly learn & implement his ambitious action as part of his growth which may certainly help him to process for his career & all round development .
This is my personal opinion

I agree with what my colleagues mentioned.
I think in the field of business the word development is used more as it is more general.
'Growth' is 'Quantitative' enlargement: 'Development' is 'Qualitative' expansion
eg.,
Growth of 'Population' & 'Human Development' is 'Development' of 'Population'
In my personal opinion, Growth is the concept that refer to increase the bulk. which may be organized or not. like the growth of garbage in some undeveloped countries out of our region.
Development is the improvement and organisation of the available things, which may be accompanied by growth or not. like the garbage recycling facilities, which is not available in our country.
If we ask about a live example for growth and development, the answer will be the CHINA.

Growth means semantically for animate objecrs, while development is for inanimate ones. Generally, they are related but their usage depends on the context of occurrence.
Thank you dear DR Fares Aboushnaf and Dr Marwah Firas Abdullah Al-Rawe for your active contributions and comments
In general, there is a difference but it depends on particular area or field that we need to differentiate between both. If we looked at it from economical perspectives, we can differentiate between both as follows:
Growth is a quantitative or something like increasing of physical aspects while development is mixed of both quantitative and qualitative. In other words, it is a life long process which involved changes from origin to maturity that occurs without growth. This is my general understanding to these 2 concepts and the difference between each other.
Definition of development
There were many views on the definition of development and can be summarized as follows:
A complex and comprehensive process encompassing aspects of economic, political, social, cultural and ideological life.
The complex form of successive or continuous processes or processes carried out by man to control the content, direction and speed of change, culture and civilization in a society in order to satisfy his needs.
A social phenomenon arose with the emergence of stable people increased production and developed trade and emerged different civilizations on Earth.
A planned activity aimed at bringing about changes in the individual and the community and regulation in terms of information and experience in terms of performance and methods of work, and in terms of attitudes and behavior, which makes the individual and the community fit for their jobs efficiently and high productivity.
I agree with my colleagues, there are many definition for both, it can be differences and some of which are similar.

Development may be An transform about growing or turning into huge through An specific period. It particularly need nothing should would Similarly as a wide margin Likewise qualitative development is concerned alternately at the end of the day it will be An term which depicts quantitative expansion of a specific relic.
Whereas,.
Improvement is An wider expression What's more incorporates development i. E it may be A greater amount of a thorough particular idea which not best incorporates quantitative growth as well as incorporates qualitative development.
Development might alternately might not a chance to be great to a specific criteria (or in any event over trading and lending. ) However improvemen that's only the tip of the iceberg frequently signifies An sure mentality.
Notwithstanding We should make a sample.
The populace of our nation over will be developing.
The sentence communicates the increment alternately development of populace Be that this might not make a great implication for our economy.
Previously, in turn example,.
Those mechanical division for our country need created through the decade.
Notwithstanding in this sentence advancement of a division is communicated should need happened Also this Surely will be a great evidence for our economy
regards
Growth means increase in GDP.
Development means increase in overall well-being (economic+social+cultural+health+education etc.)
I think growth is related to quantitative improvement, and development relates to quantitative and qualitative improvement
Thank you Dear Dr Djaafar Zemali for your valuable comments and explanation, you are right about their classification
Every development is growth, but not necessarily that each growth is development because growth can go in an opposite direction of development
Growth is usually used in reference to size or physical development. Development overall is a more general and envelop term than growth. Development includes growth, but also includes other aspects of improvement or development.

Development development of many things, shown by the qualitative improvement of conditions, the development of certain processes to meet general needs.
