I am studying the continuum mechanics based model of sintering proposed by Olevsky et. al. in the context of spark plasma sintering.

In this model, the author proposes a constitutive equation describing the relationship between stress and strain. In this constitutive equation, the applied stress is equated to a function of equivalent stress, effective stress of sintering, strain rate, and equivalent strain rate.

I think that the applied stress corresponds to the pressure applied on a sample during SPS. Now I would like to understand the conceptual differences between effective stress of sintering and equivalent stress, and also between equivalent strain rate and regular strain rate.
