I am going to conduct gasification experiment using calcined dolomite as bed material to improve the gasification performance. I want to use calcined dolomite, however, most of the seller are selling dolomite. Now I am in a fix, is it same with calcined dolomite or totally different? I will be really grateful if someone having a clear idea about this kindly clear my confusion. Thanks!

Dolomite is a mixture of calcium and magnesium carbonates, i.e., CaMg(CO3)2.
When you calcine this salt by heating to high temperature, it decomposes to CaO and MgO and CO2 gas is released.

There is an endothermic heat of calcination that you will need to factor into your heat and material balance calculations. In addition calcined dolomite is friable. When it calcines it usually results in very fine particle size distribution. For sulfur capture limestone is a more effective sorbent compared to dolomite.
Thank you Mr. Dacireno. Actually my target is hydrocarbon destruction by cracking reaction. I have found both lime and dolomite are useful for this. However, dolomite is more effective for tar conversion. For my experiment I am going to use both actually.
