Over the decades, Researchers have been recommending that biogas should replace Natural gas as a domestic fuel source. On Sunday 14th April, 2024, the resource person at a meeting of Akwa Ibom and Cross River States Chapter of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers taught that compressed Natural Gas is the alternative fuel for Petrol Engines and Diesel Engines (Internal Combusting Engines). But natural gas is not 100 % methane as Biogas is. Biogas is 100 % methane. When natural gas is compressed, it turns to liquid not gas. The combustion of liquid yields more carbon and greenhouse gases than the combustion of gas. By this, the combustion of compressed Natural gas is less environmentally friendly than the combustion of Natural Gas. Compressed Natural Gas combustion is just like that of diesel and petrol because the compression turns the Natural Gas to liquid which may be a more viscous liquid. Though the resource person did not compare Compressed Natural gas Combustion to that of Biogas, he did not also compare the combustion of compressed Natural gas with the combustion of Natural Gas using neither theoretical nor empirical results. It is known that diesel engines do not have the same features as petrol engines because of the viscoscity of Diesel, the component parts are not the same. The resource person however compared the advantages of Compressed Natural Gas to that of Diesel and petrol using information obtained from litterature but he did not mention the experimental basis nor the scientific basis of those information. I would be very grateful if somebody can help me with scientific derivations. Compression process does not remove carbon or pollutants but rather turns the Natural gas to liquid whose combustion is more complex and yields pollutant gasses. Nigerian LNG Company compresses natural gas because more of it can be stored and transported at that compressed state, not because it is more environmentally friendly. Because of time, the moderator did not permit participants to ask questions. Please somebody help me, if possible with related scientific laws and Equations. Thank you and God bless you.
