I need a scientific explanation, preferably linguistic or lexicographic, (a link to an article would be appreciated), that explains how words can be categorized or classified based on their definition.

For the word [chair]:

  • the definition would be: "A chair is a furniture."
  • The description would be: " A chair is a tool we use to sit on."

For the word [cat]:

  • the definition would be: "A cat is an animal."
  • The description would be: " A cat is a domesticated furred four legged animal that purrs."

For the word [blue]:

  • the definition would be: "Blue is a color."
  • The description would be: " Blue is a light that is visible between the 450–495  nanometer wavelength."

For the word [business]:

  • the definition would be: "A business is an organisation."
  • The description would be: " A business is a group of person who works together, usually in a hierarchical fashion, to produce and sell or rent a product or sell a service. Profit are redistributed to the owner or owners of the business."

Thanks for your help.

Denis
