Illness, in biomedical science, is the manifestation of physical or physiological disorder due to infectious or non infectious agents. Health is a condition when the person is free from such disorders. However, any generalized or localized pain is illness in lay definition. A person who looks apparently healthy but harbors infectious agents may be considered as healthy in lay definition.

Absence of illness may not necessarily indicate health in biomedical definition.
