Hello, I am looking to do probiotic tests for my lactic acid bacteria and I need to use bile salts powder that I have at my disposal in lab. there are two different colors one white and one green, is there a difference? What do you recommend ? at the same time if you have a particular protocol for this test. thanks in advance
The bile-secretory unit consists of a canalicular network which is formed by the apical membrane of adjacent hepatocytes and sealed by tight junctions. Dear Mohammad... Despite of consideration of colors of bile salt, it is more important to know the origin of both bile salts and their compositions. Bile salts are basically consist of cholic, deoxycholic, chenodeoxycholic, and lithocholic acids. These may be synthesized in lab like S25196 salt, sometimes may be of natural sources like ox-bile etc. Color difference is not important.

Decolorization of the bile in an obstructed biliary system occurs because the biliary epithelium continues to secrete mucus in stagnant bile. But a green bile is a fluid made by the liver and stored in our gallbladder. Bile salts help with the digestion of fats in our bodies. They also help us to absorb fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E, and K. See the links :

Dear DR Aref Wazwaz and Dr T. H. Al-Noor thanks for your answers , but my question is about powdered bile salts and their use in probiotic tests for lactic acid bacteria as I wrote in the question, not the definition of bile or the bile-secretory unit .
Dear Mohamed-Cherif ... Use of bile salt for probiotic test is just addition of 0.3% and 0.5% bile salts in MRS/M-17 media. Controls should be used, same strain grown without bile salt and calculate the percentage survival of strain in bile by simply percentage formula
