Dear all, I found that there were two types of concentrated hydrochloric acid produced by
ACROS Organics. One is 37% hydrochloric acid, the other is fuming 37% hydrochloric acid. If I use 37% hydrochloric acid to synthesize ceramic raw powder with sol-gel method, then normally I cann't get dentisified ceramic sample. Only when I use the fuming 37% hydrochloric acid does the raw powder shows good sinterability. The sintering parameters are the same.
Why does this happan? What's the difference between the two acids?

Dear Le Fu, it is a matter of how pure is the concentration in the percent of HCl mentionned in the solution. An indication to that is the évaporation or more precisely the vapor pressure. Fumed HCl can reach 40%, this is why it forms dense fumes upon oppening the bottle. My Regards

If the concentration of HCl is above 30%, the boiling point decreases rapidly and evaporation rate increases. 36.5--38% HCl is known as “fuming” hydrochloric acid because of it’s highly evaporation rate.
