Technology adoption is a process – starting with the user becoming aware of the technology, and ending with the user embracing the technology and making full use of it. Someone who has embraced a technology is likely to replace the item if it breaks, find innovative uses for it, and cannot contemplate life without it. Technology acceptance, as opposed to adoption, is an attitude towards a technology, and it is influenced by various factors. A user who has purchased a new technology item has not yet adopted it – there are other stages beyond simple purchasing and this is where acceptance plays an important role. If the user buys an item and then does not accept it, it is unlikely that full adoption will occur.

How I perceive this whole process is that perceptual values lead to the acceptance of technology which leads to adoption of technology and then the technology is implemented or used by the user in actual. Now this must be kept in mind that the actual usage may also change the perceptual values leading to the adoption of the technology.

The first stage of effectively using technology is acceptance. This is the stage when the user acknowledges that technology haa a role to play. Are you referring to "perceived ease of use" out of the "technology acceptance model"? Because to me it looks more like acceptance would refer to the intentions towards use (of a technology), and adoption refers to the degree of actual use. Is this assumption right?

Venkatesh et al. (2003) (UTAUT) merged 8 acceptance models into one unified theory. But the 54 p. paper doesn't give an actual definition of acceptance. I deducted the assumptions above from this article, but I'm not sure.
