According to www.mosquitocatalog.org Aedeomyia venustipes is distributed exclusively in Australia. However, I have seen several papers reporting this species from India. Iyengar (1938) reported this species from Kerala.
This species is not available anywhere except in Australia in the database, however, there are some reviews which referred for the presence of the species in India. I can work on exploring the range where this species present if you are interested to work on it. What type of disease the species transmit?
I have not come across this species in my collections from Kerala but M.O.T. Iyengar, a famous entomologist and epidemiologist reported this species in 1938. I don't think it is a vector of any disease. My interest is to know whether this species really exists in Kerala as I am compiling the mosquito species of Kerala.
Hello Sumodan! if you have occurrences data for the species from the previous articles, we can work to identify its range based on the climatic factors the species favor. If you collected also mosquito, and you like to identify the species. I can send to you a biological transfer agreement to send to me the samples and we will identify it in NHM. Both strategic plan work for me. I am also interested to know if it is there or not.
This species has been reported from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Orissa (India) and Sri Lanka. However, a deeper search of literture hints at the possibility of misidentification. It seems the oriental species could be Aedeomyia catasticta. However, unless we compare the specimens a final verdict could not be given. Both the above species are reported from Australia (see the attached paper)
