I am interested in determining the contact angle between a NaCl solution and the surface of a NaCl crystal.
Are there any relevant resources or literature available for reference?
I do not know the answer, but only two thoughts:
1. Consider the case that there is complete wetting (contact angle of 0). If this is the case, there are no classical contact angle, and the fact of a contact angle of 0 might be overlooked in the course of a surfacial literature search. You might search for the individual interface energies and try to calculate the contact angle!
2. The contact angle will - in any case - depend on the NaCl content in the water. True equilibrium is only attained, if the H2O is saturated by the NaCl. Moreover, note that if there is H2O in the system, also the atmosphere will contain H2O and, therefore you may have surface adsorption of H2O on the NaCl, modifying the interface energy NaCl/gas.
Thank you for your valuable suggestion. I have directly measured the contact angle between saturated NaCl (26wt.%) and the salt crystal solution in the atmosphere. The results reveal that the contact angle is approximately 12°±1°.
