For extraction of phenolics, saponins and other glycosides use 70%MeOH or EtOH.

In case of saponin partitioned with BuOH for triterpenoid saponins.

After that use Silica gel,HP-20, XADs followed by Sephadex, C-18 for purification.

For phenolics simple hydrolysis of alcoholic extract, for saponins as robin joshi is suggesting can be done, and for alkaloids one has to follow acidification, basification method or vice versa

I agree with Dr. Joshi. I use methanol-water or acetone-water for phenolics. Ethanol-water for saponins and other glycosides.
