Dear colleagues. In truth, the central question of the exam is not the exam per se, but rather, guaranteeing the intellectual honesty of the student. It is very difficult, in my case, large groups of more than 500 students, to control all the technological possibilities that students have to answer the questions. Anyway, it would be good to hear other experiences.
If you do not want to use professional software, simple and best is
(i) Take multi-choice question paper (Objective Type).
(ii) Use google form for the online exam where form will automatically get submitted within given time limit.
Time exam with multiple choice questions that are randomly distributed so each student gets a different order of the same set of questions and answers (choices) as well.
Multiple choice questions (objective type) are better option for online exam. With the use of google form, one can conduct this type of exam within time.
Assignments can also be given to the students.

Here are some additional tips to help you succeed in your next online exam.
Precise question and answers with very short timing can help us. Also we can ask their webcam on to monitor them. Shlould prevent browsing during online tests. The platform should support in this.
Multiple choice questions do not elicit evidence of understanding. As it is difficult to uncover cheating in all circumstances, after a mark is provided that mark should be weighted according to the markers' judgements, going by previous work, on the accuracy of the mark. If the weight is three or four, then the accuracy should not be considered proven.

Nice discussion.In my country exam are cancelled for pre final student and for rest will done using social distancing.
For any examination the syllabus of the subject should be understood & from the examination one should carefully study the subjects in the details & if possible try to find out the importance of subject from the past records so that one can offer justice of the subject carefully .
This is my personal opinion
‘Best technique’ in one case may not be the same for others. There are a few things that may contribute to an optimum technique including:
1. Tools & softwares
2. ID verification
3. Live record
4. Question settings
I believe the question setting is one very important thing. The questions should test the real understanding of the students with questions that makes text books superfluous. It may not be a good idea to keep it only as an objective type question. Descriptive type shouldn't be omitted.
In modern conditions, when a student has unlimited access to information and known methods for solving standard problems, his knowledge can be tested in remote conditions only by assessing his ability to solve a non-standard unique problem in a separate discipline. The new teaching method will force universities to move from globally-informed education to a locally-problematically.
we have conducted open book time bound ,online examination based on case studies and situation .(Blooms Taxonomy level 4,5&6) through ERP.
Real-life Scenario-based questions should be given and ask the students to complete this assignment within time-limit and upload their solutions on University LMS.
Work Station might me either Google meet or Zoom for Live testing/grading and should ask the queries for On-d-Spot updation in the given coding-based assignment.
I think by using Live testing/grading, we can stop the copying & cheating......
In my opinion, any of the online questionnaire tools is efficient. The importance lies in calculating the time to take the exam and the time spent on the question. In the same way that asking questions that force the use of the brain and the acquired knowledge without using the notes.
Open book with reasonable time recommendations per question. Mix of MCQ with creative higher-order, problem- solving style. Are we ignoring student access to device, software usage and subject areas that might lend themselves to eportfolio style, pitch or presentation?
Online examination is not that common in my country but I think the best method is to provide students with questions with multiple answers and examination should be timed. It can be designed in such a way that students must read in between every line of their notes to find answers.
LMS and other online ICT tools has settings which can be adapted. For example, in Moodle you can give quiz to the students wherein the questions and the options are shuffled for each student. It can be timed. Distractors in the options should be there to avoid cheating.
In our English courses, we use the platform Moodle to create exams with different types of items that are organized at random with restrictions of time and with the possibility of only one attempt to answer each question. It is safe because students don't have time to make comments while completing the exam.
In this University the exam are in Teams or Skype, these tecnologies are excellent for some exam to students.

Pour les items a réponses subjectives, autant donner un test a livre ouvert limite dans le temps. Cela augmenterait la pression psychologique de l’étudiant. J'ai fait l'expérience avec un email, non avec whatsapp. Meme lorsqu'on utiliserait whatsapp, quel serait le problème, si l'objectif est d'administrer l'examen en vue de diminuer le plagiat ou la tricherie. It does not depend so much on the platform, as to the way you as educator are formulating the exam question. Ideally the answer to the exam question should require problem solving and not mere reproduction of taught material. In our experience medical images with artifacts are given to students and the expected answer is discussion of those artifacts.
I dnt know its been discussed before or not. There is a software SAFE EXAMINATION BROWSER which is being by Punjab university Pakistan for its BS/MS exams. Its speciality is that that captures ur desktop/laptop when u open it as u would not be able to open any other files on ur computer. Its awesome but requires good internet.
