Pectolytic enterobacteria (Dickeya sp., Pectobacterium sp.) became very harmful pathogens of potato transmitted by seeds. Is there any reliable ways to control the pathogens? I know that THIOPHANATE METHYL/MANCOZEB or MANCOZEB + COPPER were applied with success, but they are less efficient against systemic infection (D. solani).

First of all, it should be noted that, we can not control but we can manage a disease.For managing these pathogenic bacteria we can use preventing methods, plant sanitation and delaying harvest, by using identified antagonistic bacteria in the rhizosphere of potato plants such as P. putida and p.fluorescence; through inhibitors or induced plant resistance we can immune to pathogen attacks. Also flooding seeds of potatoes in suspension of these bacteria before planting and after harvesting can be useful.

I hv also used some chemicals like ciproflaxacin which work best and were never reported before controlling the disease.

Acording to my experience BCA's dont work best against this disease. if they had i would hv loved to take my research in that direction because i am very found microbial biological control. these antagonistic bacteria work best against fungal pathogens they hv less scope against bacterial soft rot

Antibiotics really have high efficiency against pectobacteria, but 1) they are not permitted in agriculture in Russia, 2) they lead to resistant strains in population after a few treatments, 3) they are not efficient against inner infection in vessels (important for Dickeya solani and P. atrosepticum). What do you think about bacteriophages?
- well by the time any other effective means are worked out antibiotics could be a better alternative. as far as resistant strains are concerned we can use mixture of effective antibiotics (broad spectrum ones ) in ur case just seed treatment for a bit prolonged time (i suggest wet seed treatment to allow antibiotics to go inside). I belive as i hv worked out 200ppm should not pose any threat to humen population even to immune compromised population. and any ways they are much much safer then fungicides (which scientists reluctantly allow) to humans (eukeryotic poisons).well bacteriophages (if any) effective will take years to develop into reality and i doubt if they can have a practical commercial use. however a good academic topic for research. if u will go through the review alum is much better and safer then fungicides (probably allowed in russia)
Do not try to use biological products, such as Phytosporin? Dactrium antogonist against bacterium pathogen.

Phytosporin can reduce soft rot and black leg for 35-62%. It is efficient if disease development was under 10%. (from official Trials Report).
