Does someone have experiences with trapping rodents and insectivores (M. arvalis, A. flavicollis, A. agrarius, R. norvegicus, T. europaea, S. araneus, S. minutus, N. fodiens) alive? What´s the best trap and what´s the best bait?
I've just seen your question regarding good methods to trap small mammals.
I can recommend you Sherman- and Heslinga traps, as well as Pitfall, traps made out of tin cans (at least 40cm height). As bait, you can use peanut butter and oat mixed together to attract rodents, cucumber to avoid dehydration, and dried mealworms. Insectivores like mealworms that are alive, which you can buy in a regular pet store. For insulation on colder nights, you can provide bedding material.
I also recommend to dismantle the traps during the day in summer, otherwise, the animals will suffer in heath.
