Arsenic analysis can be done by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with detection by Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICPMS) but IITR Lucknow (csir lab)has FAAS i.e.Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometerthat is currently used for analysis in ground water.
thanks shailendra, at present we at CGWB are analysing Arsenic in ground water by FAAS using Hydride vapour generation technique, by which Arsenic hydride(AsH3) is injected in a quartz cell fitted on the Flame burner of AAS,the results are in ppb level.
The best way depends upon your budget, manpower, and target concentrations . For groundwater, you guys at CGWB are using a method that works for them. It is simple, cheap, easy to do, and has appropriate detection limits. That is, it works, so stick with it. If you change, go to ICP-MS.
