I used APT medium (as well M17) for the isolation of Lc. garvieae from fish. We found garvieae strains grow well on APT medium. However, from dairy food I think you have to add lactose to APT medium.

The best medium to isolate L.. garvieae is as found and suggested by Mr Ghrairi using APT medium with addition of lactose. To know the best lactose concentration used to be added to APT medium, it should be detected which one the best lactose concentration from various lactose concentration added to APT medium

Yes, for lactococci spp. M17 broth /agar and APT Agar should be ideal growth media.
