Democracy, though it delays time in decision making and taking of specific actions, yet, its the most human of all the leadership styles that any institution can adopt!
Community-based, social and structural construction governed by well-researched laws allows the success of any leadership of the universities, and quickly excludes any failure or corruption
Right from higher education to the university ,post graduates level leading to research study of various areas make the society a place for moral integration & subsequently for the creation of the welfare state .University education is not mean for creating ,autocracy or authoritarian making the person arrogant turning towards out look of dictatorship & one would agree that university education is not mean for transforming the negative size of human beings .
In the above line what we feel that our education must transport the student to the path of democratic mode so that they may become a worthy citizen & creating the peaceful environment in the society .
Situational leadership is a leadership style that has been developed and studied by Kenneth Blanchard and Paul Hersey.Situational leadership refers to when the leader or manager of an organization must adjust his style to fit the development level of the followers he is trying to influence.
A leader that is objective, leads with compassion, puts his/her people's voices at the heart of the decisions he/she makes and shows genuine interest in his/her people will always get the best out of them. A leader that does not listen to his/her people ends up with no people to lead but robots - which is not the best way to go when it comes to leadership in universities and educational institutions as they require collaboration and cooperation consistently.
On the contrary, a leader that always seeks validation for his decisions is no leader at all. At the end of the day, someone has to switch the lights on and off without asking for permission or validation. So, a combination of a 45% democratic, 25% charismatic and 30% Authoritarian leadership style can do.
The situational style of management states that there is no one best style of leadership. The most effective leaders are the ones who can adapt their style to a given situation.
How can anyone involved in education even consider that non democratic leadership and governance structures are compatible with the purpose of education?
You cannot be serious as John Mc Enroe used to say!
As the best leadership style is the one that takes the particular situation in to account, democratic leadership style is better that the authoritarian one given the context and nature of universities and their professional task force.
