To this, I believe you should observe how a participant or non-participant the day by day and write your impressions in a notebook (field diary). The interations can be displayed. You can create a table with a socialization's level. Questionaires or interviews can to help you. They'd be auxiliar's tools.

Research concerning the interrelationship between socialization and learning styles has a long history (see Meyers and Jones ,1993; Kolb, 1981 and Briggs, 2003). Evidently, degree of socialization involves the construct of extroversion vs introversion. According to Kolb, extrovert learners utilize certain learning and perceptual styles that are totally different from those adopted by learners with lower degrees of socialization.

I am sure you will find appreciable differences between the targeted variables.

You feedback is great. I already read some of Kolb works. Unfortunately, Kolb recognizes Learning Styles as something while socialization is something else. Yes, they are related but they are two distinguishable parts. His categories are :reflector, theorist, pragmatist and activist. These categories do not include a clear distinction between how different the students are in their learning with teachers, fellows, and parents. The point here: is it right to say that how the students prefer to react with their social network is part of their learning styles?

If the relationship between what we believe to be "Learning Styles" and student socialization is quite strong then: Should we reconsider "Learning Styles" to include socialization?

Yes, Mr. Micaias Rodrigues. I know that questionnaire and interview have deficiencies. Tests and perceptions would give us better results in general. However, in some cases they are just not possible. The aim of the measurement is to see the level of socialization of a large number or students and this includes students' reaction with their fellows and parents. Therefore, we don't have any other option but the questionnaire.

Midss.org is a well known website. I already use it. Actually, there are many instruments and inventories to measure socialization. The question is: which one is the best in my case?

Alaa, I agree to Micaias but I understand your point about collect a large number of records. In this particular case You could propose a new questionnaire taking into account the other questionnaires that you has viewed previously. Your instrument can integrate the Vygotsky's sociocultural theory, and you could review Giddens theory. These are social theories about social learning and collaborative environment

Perhaps the role of power and the relationship between subjectivity and objectivity may shed light on the identity calls made on students and the process of socialisation? The theories about Adult Learners and Teaching of Adults may also provide perspective. When adults with experience and busy lives subject themselves to a course of academic learning, they enter into an agreement to endure and participate in certain identity positions that are offered to them.

Interestingly - they pay for the privilege and  process of making themselves subjects to the structures and power effects from  academic institutions, engaging in learning, subjecting their work (part of their identity formation) to becoming graded and to the authority of the lecturer and institution. This is in order to gain a re-framed/repositioned identity (is it a violence?) via  eventual qualification as an expert or professional in a particular subject or field.

The work of Jaques Deridda, Michel Foucault, and others alert us to the way [we become socialised via] our purposeful and willing engagement in activities and relationships,  and our submissive or participatory engagement via selective use and development of ideas and language.

Part of the socialising process is this constructive and constitutive process, stitched together via language. This is also a way of thinking about the work of POWER that we utilise, whether institutionally wielded, individually wielded or socially performed -  in education settings or within social networks.  

I hope this makes sense - it's a post-structuralist perspective on the socialisation process - where the transforming work of contracts and negotiation of shared language, forms discourses and engages with POWER to frame identity and behaviour.

Your study deals with "the relationship between Learning Styles and student's socialization: how the student react with his teachers/parents/fellows/friends in Higher Education." The latter is very important as students are socialized into their home and community culture which they bring to the HE classroom.
