Hello everyone,
I'm working on a research where I need to perform the import of a "human body" to simulate a person sitting in a chair. I found some models available on the internet, however It provides templates in .obj and .stl.
Some unsuccessful attempts to import the template into Abaqus:
- Import formats (.obj .stl) into solidworks and save in .iges or .sat (Situation: A geometric error occurs in Abaqus, and makes it impossible to perform some types of Mesh)
- Look for other models (other than humanshape org), I found some already available in .iges, however I had the same problem with importing in abaqus.
The following message occurs in Abaqus when I try to mesh these imported models: "The current part contains invalid geometry and can not be meshed or assigned mesh attributes.
Does anyone have any tips or stuff that comments on how best to do this import? or at best, does anyone have a model of a sitting human body that works well in software abaqus?

This has been discussed extensively in the past here - you need a program that can create a true solid model from the stl. There are a couple of choices depending on your budget and your system, please search old questions.

In my experience, STP (step) format works pretty good with Abaqus.
Even IGES works fine. Here's a tip : when you are importing the files into Abaqus, try to import with the option "Create individual parts" instead of "Combine" option. The combine option tries to merge the solids and sometimes ends up failing.
Another option is to use Rhino 3D. (you will find a free trial for 3 months). Import the obj/stl file that you have into Rhino, try to "clean" the stl if it has a lot of non-uniformities, and then "Export" it as step file (stp) from rhino. This usually works for me.
