I'm using an HP-5MS column with a length of 60 m, but in the literature I find so many papers using 30 m!
Firstly, what is the best column ( HP-5MS, HP-5, DB-5, ...) for characterizing essential oil?
Secondly, How we can choose the appropriate library (Nist, ...) to extract Kovats indices and make the comparison?

First DB-5 is good column for determination of essential oils. Second thin the library for the GC MS it comes with it because there's a contract with the manufacture of the device, if you need to make a comparative you should change the condition of your analysis in the same device.
Most of the low-polarity columns such as HP-(1-5)/MS, DB-(1-5)/MS, DB-MTBE5, CP-Sil (2-8) CB, Select Mineral Oil should work well for your type separation and analysis.
Using a 60M column will give you a better peak separation. Column efficiency (narrow peaks), as well as Solute retention, are directly proportional to the column length. It is better to start with the 30M column, and then decide to choose from 15M, 30M or 60M So, it all depends on the nature and constituent complexity of your sample mix. In general, a longer column results in increased analysis time.
Kovats indices are generally used with isothermal analytes, not the best condition for essential oils. Check the NIST link for some additional info: https://webbook.nist.gov/chemistry/gc-ri/
Actually, there are several columns are available for the analysis of essential oils. I think, the best one is: DB-5, it is a very good column for determination of essential oils.
