Gause medium and mentioned are good for isolation of actinomycetes but not for secondary metabolite production. If you want optimal medium for antibiotic production, you should do the screening using several media: cultivate your strain and measure antibiotic's production - by hplc or by activity testing (if you don't know the active substance or it's new). The choice of media for screening depends on strain's biochemistry (C,N-sources, inorganic ions etc.) and type of metabolite (peptide, polyketide etc.). You can find relevant examples in recent issues of J. Antibiotics or similar journals.
Dear Moaz, You can use many media to enhance the secondary metabolites, But i think the best media for marine actinomycetes are Gause medium, or you can use Starch casein agar (SCA) or ISP2 media,, but mostly i never prefer these two mediums because Casein also show its peak in HPLC and some time its hinder the original secondary metabolites peak so i always used the Gause medium, because gause medium haven't any content which show its peak in hplc.
